Drew's Birth Story

What a way to start my new blog. :)

I want to write my baby's birth story so that I dont forget any of the details of our little guy's birth. :)

Andrew Steven was born on March 1st, 2010 at 1:59pm via cesarean section. He was 8 pounds, 10oz. and 21" long at birth. Now I know why I could barely breathe the last 10 or so weeks of pregnancy! He was a big boy!

On February 28th, Steve and I were getting so excited to meet our baby boy! Because I was having surgery the next day, I couldnt eat anything past midnight that night so we decided to go out for our last meal just the two of us at Texas Roadhouse. I was craving a baked potato and it was nice to spend some time with my hubby before our big day! The rest of the night was spent getting ready for our hospital stay and talking about our future with our little boy. We were literally so excited, we were both bubbling with excitement! Neither of us got much sleep Sunday night and we woke up pretty early Monday morning even though we didnt need to be at the hospital until 11:30am.

Here is the last picture we took of me pregnant:

After that, we were on our way to the hospital! We got checked in and got one last ultrasound...yup, my boy was still breech. During this time, I remembered feeling such anticipation for my new son and nervousness for the surgery I was about to have. I was very nervous for the surgery and the spinal because I didnt know what to expect but the anticipation of meeting my son was more than I could almost bear!

Here are a few pics of us before surgery:

At about 1:30 p.m., my doctor came in and told me we were ready to go! He answered a few questions and told me that he would see me in the operating room. At this point, I started to freak out!! I started crying because I couldnt control the emotion I felt for what was happening and about to happen to me! They let me walk to the operating room where I met one of my other doctors. They got me situated on the table and she stayed close to me because she knew I was so nervous for the spinal (they made Steve wait in the hall until the spinal had taken effect). She held my hand and helped me breathe while they put the medication in and immediately, i felt my legs go warm and tingly. They laid me down and the last thing I saw was them basically flipping my legs all around to get them in place. This freaked me out because I couldn't feel it so I closed my eyes and concentrated on breathing and moving my arms. This really helped.

Steve was by my side at this point and they got started. I just remember hearing the doctor explain what he was doing and about 10 minutes later, I heard someone by my head that was looking over the curtain say "I see a butt!!!". At this point, I started crying!! As soon as the doc pulled Drew out, I felt my lungs open and I could breathe...it felt so good! At that point, they brought Drew over to the table and began working on him! Steve was over watching everything that was going on and within seconds, I heard the most beautiful sound I think I ever heard! My little son crying his lungs out!!

I had a hard time seeing him while they were getting him cleaned up and that was hard but it was worth it when they told me he was nice and healthy. He scored an 8 and 9 on his APGAR tests which is awesome! The rest of the surgery was uneventful and I spent the rest of the time craning my neck to get a view of Drew! Finally after they were done assessing, they brought him over and I got to meet him. I just remember feeling like my heart was going to break from absolute joy and love!! Here are a few pics from the operating room meeting our boy:

And finally, my favorite pic of my family in the operating room:

And here Drew is with my favorite doctor in the whole wide world, my OB, Doc Kwaiser:

I will update soon on Drew meeting the family and the rest of my recovery but for now, my boy is up and wanting to eat!
